“Oscillation in Sight” is a series of film experiments that challenge traditional cinematic representation by focusing on the mechanics of image-making. Created with a custom-built 16mm film camera that eliminates single-frame registration and bypasses standard constraints like frame size, speed, and shutters, the series explores new visual possibilities beyond conventional film techniques.
In “Oscillation in Sight #2”, the camera captures passengers on a train platform. When stationary, it produces moving vertical stripes; when moved vertically, recognizable figures begin to appear. This shifting interplay between motion and perception forms the core of the work’s visual language.
The film was made for Nico Komen's 16mm Motion Picture Panorama, an installation designed to present the 5-minute, 30-second piece in a continuous loop. Its structure embraces the cyclical rhythm of both the medium and the installation format.
