For the 12th edition of DIFFRAKTION, on April 1, 2023, LaborBerlin presents an evening of films, installations and performances by local and international artists that explore the eye-opening and mind-altering qualities of analog film.
With a special focus on expanded cinema, DIFFRAKTION 12, is very excited to welcome guests Jan Kulka and Luis Macías, artists that use analog projection in their own distinctive ways that redefine conventional notions of cinema.
DIFFRAKTION 12 will also include a panel and discussion on the future of analog film projection, and research being made to develop new projection devices. Joining LaborBerlin in this discussion are members of five other artist-run film labs that have together created SPECTRAL (Spatial, Performative & Expanded Cinematic Transnational Research at Artist-run Labs) a four-year collaborative project that centers on expanded cinematic arts and the possibilities of live cinema and analog projection. The project includes artist residencies, workshops, the creation of hybrid film equipment, screenings, and expanded events.
