Mire

Mire is an association dedicated to experimental cinema and moving images, founded in 1993 and based in Nantes, France. We envision cinema in an expanded dimension – with a predilection for analog – yet interacting with other fields and practices. Mire holds projections and multidisciplinary events, among which the annual festival PRISME – Argentique du futur, and runs a shared film laboratory, as well as leading workshops and educational activities.

WANDERING SOUNDS AND IMAGES : RESEARCH SEMINAR - ARTIST RESIDENCIES – YOUTH WORKSHOPS

In the context of SPECTRAL, Mire will focus on art forms undertaking sounds and images in their trajectory through space; a sense of lightness and adaptation, of open air and roaming contained in the expression "Wandering Sounds and Images"

The “Wandering Sounds and Images” research seminar will be organized into three ten-day sessions between 2023 and 2024. The goal of this seminar is to develop a kit of mobile tools, easily transportable, autonomous in electricity and requiring minimal set up. This kit will be comprised of three devices :

  • a 16mm black and white developing laboratory
  • tools for light and/or film projection (16 mm and other)
  • portable acousmonium (hi-fi orchestra)

Following this seminar, Mire will hold 3 three-week artist residencies providing the previously developed tools, orienting creation towards wandering performances anchored in the surrounding environments inspiring three different spatial themes:

  • Urban verticality
  • Showcasing industrial port spaces
  • Roaming the Loire river banks

All along the project, multiple workshops for children from underprivileged neighborhoods and children suffering from sensory impairments will be organized by local artists utilizing and exploring the different tools and topics developed during the seminar and residencies.

PRISME FILM FESTIVAL - ANALOG OF THE FUTURE

Our annual local experimental film festival PRISME will be the time for showcasing E.C.A to a broader audience as well as creating occasions for professional and artistic networking between local and international E.C.A communities.
